Labuan Bajo, The Gateway of ‘Jurassic Park’
Wonderful Indonesia - Labuan Bajo, The Gateway of ‘Jurassic Park’
Labuan Bajo, The Gateway of ‘Jurassic Park’ – Have no idea of upcoming holiday destination? Too bored getting on the same vacation spot, always and always? Outta option but want something new? Why don’t you try to squint your gaze on the eastern-ish part of Indonesia: the nation’s traveling paradise. One will have many options there, such as Bunaken in Sulawesi, Raja Ampat in West Papua, Alor Archipelago in East Nusa Tenggara, etc. But for now, let’s talk about the newest, most exquisite spot of all – the Jewel of Indonesia in the sight of the international world: Labuan Bajo, The Gateway of ‘Jurassic Park’.

Labuan Bajo is situated in Florest, one of the largest islands in Nusa Tenggara – part of the Lesser Sunda Archipelago. It is a fishing town in the western end of the island which acts as the capital of West Manggarai Regency. Since its tourism ‘came to the light’ and went viral, the town was transformed into a tourist center. In addition, it also became the center of administrative government for neighboring region due to the quick expanding supportive tourist activities facilities. From the population census in 2010, it was estimated that there were more than 5.700 souls lived in this town.
At first, Labuan Bajo was known as the gateway to the Komodo National Park. As the closest large town, it grew into the departure point to the Komodo and Rinca Islands – the home islands of the ‘eminent’ Komodo Dragon. From Labuan Bajo, it takes more or less 2 hours voyage to the Komodo Island. But before you go there, do not forget to explore the splendor of the Labuan Bajo first. Of course the most admired spot is the ‘enchanting’ Padar Island: the unfolded picturesque view of rock summit and beaches – nowhere in the world can match it.

But do not stop there, for god sake! You cannot miss the whole ‘show’: the pink sandy beach, Pink Beach; the wildlife encounter, Manta Point; the heavenly sunset spot, Gili Laba; color-changing lakes, Kelimutu; the hidden cave-pool, Rangko Cave; the outta-realm fall, Cunca Wulang Waterfall; crop-circle-ish field, Sawah Lingko; and many more. So make sure you allocate your time as much as you can for the holiday, ‘cause Labuan Bajo is not vast enough to be explored in just couple days – and believe me, it is worth your time!
